WE ARE GROWING THINGS!

The Elm Creek Garden Center and Insect Habitat is officially open!

And, this is what we did today!
Thanks to Molly and Mrs. Sarah for their help today! (And, always!:)

Thanks to Vicki and the Minnesota Horticultural Society for LOTS of seeds and advice and encouragement!

Check the Blue Notes Blog often for news of our “plant progress”.  We will be going to Malmborg’s Nursery on May 19th for a fun morning in the greenhouses learning about how plants grow!  Look for more info and a permission slip next week!

We are also working on a special “surprise” project.  If you/your child has an old pair of boots, a hat (straw or baseball cap), or an old pair of gloves (not mittens), please send to school by May 5th.  And, if you have old seed packets, catalogs, or garden magazines, we could use those as well!

We are really going to be busy from now until the end of the year!  Thank you for talking with your firstie about good behavior.  When everyone is working hard, It makes our class such a wonderful learning space.

BLUE NOTES
Friday, April 10th

We are learning so many exciting story elements as we continue reading and writing Fairy Tales!  This week we worked on how to describe a fairy tale character using interesting words that readers would enjoy.  These firsties are doing an amazing job understanding the story elements of character, setting, problems and solutions that are in most fairy tales.  Here is some of the work that these firsties have been doing:

More photos coming soon!

And, our Fairy Tale Ball will at the end of April.  I will send the date and time next week.

And,  as you can see, we are getting ready for the Grand Opening of the Elm Creek Garden Center and Insect Habitat!  Our insects have arrived, and we will begin our garden work soon.

We could use some house plants or maybe some small plants from a Garden Center to “stock” our Garden Center before our seedlings begin to sprout.  If you can send a plant, just let me know if you need the pot returned. We will have a “Garden Party” in mid-may to plant our straw bale gardens.  I will send the date later this month.

Also, please send a pack of colored pencils for your firstie to use as we document our plant and insect observations and explorations in our Science Notebooks.  We also need cardboard egg cartons.

We are enjoying our learning in spring!
