A SMASHING PERFORMANCE

BY MRS. BLUE'S FIRST GRADE PUPPETEERS!

These firsties were ready, and they did an amazing job!  I am so proud of their hard work!  And, not only were they wonderful performers, but they were also a great audience, supporting their friends and fellow puppeteers.

And, now we're off to the land of kings, queens, dragons, and giants!
THE LAND OF FAIRY TALES!!!!

When we return from Spring Break we will begin reading fairy tales and exploring character traits, settings, plot, and so many new interesting words!

We will complete our study of measurement and dive into fractions!  How do parts and wholes relate to one another?

I hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break with friends and family!  And, hopefully, when we return winter WILL (might)  be gone!!!!!

READING, WRITING, AND COUNTING, GRAPHING, AND MEASURING WITH JELLYBEANS!

SOME GREAT STORIES!!!!

These firsties are practicing Word Work words with jellybeans and even writing about magic beans!

And, then more jellybeans for graphing...

And, measuring.....

The jellybeans were causing quite a few problems because they kept rolling on the floor!!!! So, we decided that using a ruler with the standard unit of inches might be a better idea (even if a ruler isn't as sweet!:)

We will continue our work with measurement this week!

Next week we will begin exploring non-standard and standard units of measurement!
(It might be too early to find any inchworms!:)  We might even find ourselves using something yummy to measure objects and distances! Screen Shot 2015-03-19 at 5.40.46 PM.png
Please to continue to read with your firstie every night.  They are becoming such independent readers and writers!

AND, THE PUPPETS ARE MADE!

And, now it’s PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
We will be practicing our scripts every day. Thank you for working with your firsties at home as well. You are invited (formal invitation to come later) to our Puppet Play on Thursday, March 26th at 1:45 in the Media Center.

This week we learned how a pictograph can give us information about any subject.  Here is our Class Pictograph:

We can count and compare numbers.  And, we can practice the concepts of more and fewer.  We will be reading and creating our own graphs in the next few weeks.  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction facts with totals to 18 as well as number patterns.

And, as spring arrives, remember that we will be spending a LOT of time outdoors. We will have another Friday Outdoor Exploration next week (Friday, March 20th) at 2:00.

What a wonderful time of year to be in first grade!
