YESTERDAY'S FIELD DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! AND, A CELEBRATION OF PLAY AND FRIENDSHIP!

AND, THANK YOU, SANDY AND DOUG!

Sandy and her assistance dog, Doug, have joined us every Friday to help with reading and science and walks to the pond! Our firsties love when Sandy calls his/her name to come read with her. She is a master at helping them figure out words they don't know and encouraging them to think about what they are reading.  Thank you, Sandy, and Doug, for the gift of your time and expertise!

So, what is happening next week????

Monday:  “Bring a Bag of Books to School Day”  We will be celebrating our love for reading.  Firsties can bring books (no more than 5) from home (or the library) to share with friends.  And, a stuffed animal can come along for the fun!  Be sure your firstie’s books are labeled.

Tuesday: “Let the Games Begin Day”  Firsties can bring games from home to play with friends. (NO ELECTRONIC GAMES, PLEASE!) Bring board games, card games, dice games, etc. Each firstie should bring no more than three games.  Again, please label.

Wednesday: The Grand Opening of Blue’s Arcade! We will be preparing for our “customers”! Check e-mail for more details.

Thursday:  We will enjoy a “End of Year Breakfast” together and celebrate all that we have done and become this year.  We will sign Yearbooks in the afternoon and then, I will send them on their way. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me.  It has been an incredible year filled with learning, laughter, and joy!

What an amazing journey through the greenhouses at Malmborg’s! In education we talk about goals and objectives.  As we moved into the spring and our focus on plants and insects, it has always been my goal for these firsties to “fall in love” with the wonder of the life cycle of both plants and insects. I guess, if there needed to be an objective, it would read something like this: See, hear, touch, smell, (and, taste when the time is right), and communicate the things you see and the observations you make. These firsties have done ALL of the above.

And, they have begun their work in the “arcade arena”! If you haven’t yet viewed “Caine’s Arcade” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faIFNkdq96U), take a minute to look at the video with your firstie. We are creating “Blue’s Arcade”, and these firsties are so creative!  They are   designing and building an arcade game complete with rules, points, and prizes!

Check the Blog often for ongoing progress. (http://bluesnotes1stgrade.blogspot.com/) I am sorry I didn't get any new pictures today! We were so busy planning, cutting, taping....But, I will update the Blog daily next week. AND.... We will PLAY on Wednesday, June 3rd!

We are all having to remind ourselves that SCHOOL IS NOT OUT YET! :)  I have told these firsties that we will WORK hard and PLAY hard until the very last day! Thank you for your help in reminding them of of our class expectations.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with your family and friends!

Magic at Malmborg's

WE WERE OVERWHELMED BY THE BEAUTY OF THE PLACE AND THE GENEROSITY OF OUR DEAR FRIEND, VAN COOLEY AND THE WONDERFUL EMPLOYEES AT MALMBORG'S GARDEN CENTER AND GREENHOUSE!

We learned and experienced so much!  Mr. Cooley (Van) invited us to use all of our senses!  We looked (and saw so many plants-even plants with our Garden Names!).  We smelled - lemon balm and a popcorn plant! We felt like we were in a movie theater!  And, we tasted something that was so sweet!  An herb that is a sugar substitute!

And, then, we got to go back into the greenhouses where over 5 million plants (flowers and vegetables) are growing! And, how does that work?  Let your firstie tell you!

Sincere thanks to Van and Deb, and all of the employees at Malmborg's for their gifts today!  They gave their time, their seeds, their plants, and, most importantly, their passion for growing things. And, they shared it with our firsties!  And, now, our firsties want to grow things!  Thank You!
