SO MANY GREAT THINGS TODAY!

We began the Word Work Component of Daily Five today. What is Word Work?

Creating and maintaining a time every day to focus on words is critical to developing readers, writers, and communicators.  This time is spent in the following areas:

  • Experimenting with words for learning and practicing a spelling pattern
  • Memorizing high frequency words
  • Generalizing spelling patterns
  • Adding to our knowledge and curiosity of new and interesting words

At school, your student will have the opportunity to practice words using a variety of materials:

  • Whiteboards
  • Magnetic letters
  • Wikki Stix
  • Play Doh
  • Letter Stamps
  • Colored Markers
  • Magazine Cut-Outs
  • Tracing in Salt or Sand

I will introduce your student to a variety of practice activities that focus on words that he/she is working on. We will practice using the materials at school so that each student can explore different ways for mastering the words.

This is what that looks like:

AND WHAT ABOUT THAT LEAF MAN??????
