The Calm Before the FUN!

And, then.... We had a great day filled with stories about friends, "heartfelt" math, and a wonderful celebration of families, friends, and VALENTINES!  (AND, OH THOSE VALENTINES!!!! :)

AND FRIENDS HELPING FRIENDS!!!

SO, WHAT'S NEXT?

We aren’t quite finished enjoying stories about friends!

During the next few weeks we will be reading about the adventures of Frog and Toad. And then, we will make puppets, design a set, write a script, and perform a puppet play!
And, yes, you are invited!  Look for details about dates and time in the days to come!

We will continue learning how to count and group coins.  These firsties are doing an amazing job with these concepts!  We are looking forward to creating number stories, playing some math games, and even building a mini-market where we can “spend” the money we have learned to count and group!

We will continue to work on math facts and families with totals to 20.

These kids are becoming a wonderful learning community. They are beginning to recognize each other's strengths as well as the areas that each needs support and extra work. It is so rewarding to watch them learn how to do this. Smiles, frowns, and sometimes scowls (that is a word we learned this week)! But, at the end of each day, they remind each other to get a book from their book bin, find boots, gloves and even socks for their classmates in the hall, and chat with one another about books they are reading, after school activities, and what they will they do together the next day at school.

Enjoy the long weekend with these wonderful first graders!
