Friday, February 20th

HAPPY FRIDAY!

We are celebrating “I LOVE TO READ” month!  And, these firsties are becoming such great readers!  Our “I LOVE TO READ” door decoration showcases the book,  Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen.  We had a great time this week getting our door decoration ready!

And today, we had a visit from a REAL AUTHOR! Angela Halgrimson, author of Lenny the Crow, was at Elm Creek to talk with our firsties about how authors get ideas and turn those ideas into stories. She also read her book to us! WOW!

And then, another reader visited our classroom! Carson's Dad came and read some favorite books to us!

So, all of that happened this morning! What did we do this afternoon?

THE BANK WAS OPEN!

We used REAL MONEY to practice trading pennies for dimes! (And, everyone got to take home a lucky penny!)

AND THE DAY WASN'T OVER YET.......
LOOK AT THESE SCIENTISTS AT WORK EXPLORING THE PROPERTIES OF LIQUIDS!

The Elm Creek Mini-Market will open next week!  We will role play, count and spend money, and even learn how to make change!   I still need your help to “stock the shelves”.  Please send empty cereal boxes, egg cartons, rinsed milk/juice cartons, rinsed cans, etc. I also need some artificial fruits and vegetables for the “Produce Department”. Anything that you want returned, just label and let me know.

And don’t forget the 11th Annual Family Reading NIght on Tues., Feb. 24th from 6:30-7:30. We have 3 great readers for the evening: the Osseo Police Chief – Shane Mikkelson, Nikki Poncin – parent and volunteer firefighter, and Nina Shimmin from the Hennepin County library.  And, thanks to Ms. Olson for making this “I LOVE TO READ” month so much fun!

WE HAVE BEEN SO BUSY! YOUR FIRSTIES SHOULD SLEEP WELL TONIGHT!

Have a wonderful weekend!
